We head out from Tbilisi toward Kakheti. First stop: checking out the views over Eagle Canyon and climbing up to Khornabuji Fortress, which looks like it's floating on the edge of a cliff right above the Alazani Valley.
We'll sort out the paperwork at the park administration and can hit the local museum if you're up for it.
Then we drive across the savanna to Iori Reservoir, where we'll check out some real baobabs. Next, we head to the Kilakupra mud volcanoes and a Takhti-Tepha. The landscapes there are straight off another planet: blue-grey clay, bubbling vents, and cracked earth. After looping through the savanna and visiting both volcano sites, we head back to Dedoplistskaro for dinner and some sleep.
We'll cruise through the park, stopping at the best viewpoints. First, we'll visit Bear Gorge — a narrow, scenic canyon. This is where scientists discovered remains of prehistoric animals, including cave bears and even mammoths. Next, we'll head to Pantishara Gorge. This wide canyon is home to the park's symbol, the "Alesilebi" cliffs. We'll drive along a dry riverbed, stopping at the most stunning spots to hike around and snap photos. We'll also hit a viewpoint with breathtaking views..
