Itinerary

Day 1:
Lake Tabatskuri and Volcanoes
Tbilisi → Lake Tabatskuri → Shavnabada and Shavi volcanoes → lakeside camp
Distance / elevation gain: ~15 km / ↑1050 m / ↓350 m
We kick off from Lake Tabackuri (1991 m). We'll hike through alpine meadows with views of the slopes of Mount Tavkvetili (~2,583 m), an ancient stratovolcano. Then we head toward the volcanic slopes of Shavnabada and Shavi, trekking over talus fields and through rhododendron thickets as we gain altitude. We'll camp at the foot of Kyzyldag (the Red Mountain) on the shore of a high-altitude lake (~2,714 m).
Day 2:
Lake Levani
Lakeside camp → Lake Levani
Distance / elevation gain / loss: ~8 km / ↑500 m / ↓600 m
We'll cross a 3000 m pass and head to Lake Levani (2,565 m), often called one of the main gems of the Abul-Samsari Range. We'll spend the night right by the shore of Lake Levani.
Day 3:
Lake Paravani and Tambovka village
Lake Levani → Lake Paravani → Tambovka village
Distance / elevation gain / loss: ~10 km / ↑300 m / ↓600 m
We cross the plateau and climb up to the Shaori megalithic fortress. It was built using dry cyclopean masonry, with walls several meters high. Then we head down to Lake Paravani (2,073 m) to Tambovka village, where our ride picks us up and takes us back to Tbilisi.

*If you're up for it, we can stop by a local family's home in Tambovka for lunch.
